Tucked away down a secluded lane in a beautiful corner of south Devon lies Willows Rest, a relaxing haven for all ages and occasions. This stunning 300 year old Grade II Listed barn and cottage fuse bespoke stylish interiors with original features. Vaulted beams and exposed stonework combine with a hint of luxury to create an exquisite self-catering abode that you will never want to leave. Snuggled within the grounds you will find pretty gardens, an indoor heated swimming pool (with private change area, shower and WC), a luxury cedar hot tub with fire pit, outdoor BBQ area, seating area and a wooden play-area for the little ones.
Willows Rest is the perfect place to escape the hubbub of everyday life. With spacious yet cosy living areas, luxurious lounge with log burner, sumptuous bedrooms and enchanting gardens, it is made for relaxing getaways and allows you to breathe a little deeper from the moment you arrive.
The barn sleeps 10 plus 2 cots, with 2 highchairs and stair gates, plus other baby essentials on request. Wifi, Netflix and Disney+ are available, with a TV in the separate snug and cosy underfloor heating throughout. The cottage is a standalone sanctuary right next door that sleeps two in a double bedroom. Bed linen and towels are included, but you will need to bring your own beach towels when out exploring the coastline.
If you can drag yourself away from the beautiful surroundings, you will find the magic of south Devon at your fingertips. Head to one of the many local golden sandy beaches, explore the wild and dramatic Dartmoor, or stroll round the bohemian market town of Totnes and other picturesque local towns and villages.
the environment
Throughout the renovations the owners have worked hard to update the buildings, particularly with reference to their environmental impact, whilst simultaneously trying to maintain and enhance the original features. The starting point was remove oil as the primary fuel source and introduce as many energy saving measures as possible. Easily accessible measures like modern efficient hot water systems, low energy heating and electrics, as well as improved insulation were important to the build. The introduction of renewable energy was a more serious project!
The heating is provided by ground source heating from beneath the neighbouring field. 14 trenches, each 50m long, contain 4.5km of subterranean pipe that feed heat pumps to provide the hot water and heating for the barn and cottage, as well as warming the pool. The process significantly reduces the energy needed, though does still use some electricity. To partner the ground source, the same field contains 120 solar panels that generate electricity for the heat pumps and general needs of Willows Rest.
Within the barn, we have worked hard to maintain this focus, with ethical and climate friendly products wherever possible. All cleaning products are environmentally sound, including the linen that comes from the local Ecolaundry – self-proclaimed as the “UK’s first eco-friendly laundry company”.
We now cater for Electric Vehicles with two 22KW chargepoints. These Zappi chargers are connected to the solar panels and there is the option to charge for free if you use the panels only, or more quickly using the grid.

Willows Rest is owned by Emily, Raymond and their two children. The family live in the house situated behind the barn, so are more than happy to answer any questions you may have about the local area.
Emily and Raymond have created the perfect rural idyll. They have worked to retain the original features of the barn, whilst injecting a unique sense of style and luxury throughout.
